The reasons for traveling to Iceland are endless. Its history, culture and natural beauty… We offer you all these and even more in this tour.
Day 1- Keflavík – Reykjavík
After landing you will pick up your car and drive to Reykjavik to your hotel. In case your flight arrives directly to Reykjavik, you have transportation to your hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. You can wander around the city or visit some local pubs and shops.
Day 2 – Reykjavík – Selfoss
Today you drive South into the region called „The Golden triangle“ where you can find all the Wonders of „Land of Ice and Fire“, as Iceland is often called. You will visit the thermal park of Hveragerdi, where you can learn how to use the energy under the surface of the earth and how it was used in the old times. After that we’ll tell you a secret – where you can relax in the natural thermal river after the trek up to the hill. You can simply choose your temperature – two rivers – hot and cold – flow down into one. Overnight in the hotel nearby.
Day 3 – Vík
Morning drive to the other parts of the Golden Triangle. Today you’ll visit the waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, where you can go behind. Today you’re heading to the most southern village on Iceland, Vík. Here you can find the famous troll rock and the black sand beach with the interesting history of how it was saved. Along the black sand beach you will drive to your hotel on the south shore.
Day 4 – Vík – Jökulsárlón
Today you don’t have to hurry. Only 200 kms to your final destination, Jökulsárlón lake. On the way you will see the biggest lava field in the world. You can take part in the many treks or just take a walk to one of many of the glacier’stongues on the way. You can admire the grandeur of Eyjafjallajökul, the volcano which had stopped Europian flights for many days, whose ash cloud covered almost all of Europe in 2010. On the Jökulsárlón lake you can take a boat ride between the ice floas or just wander on the beach full of icy diamonds gleaming in the sun. Overnight in the hotel and depending on the season you can look for the northern lights in the dark night or experience the midnight sun.
Day 5 – Jökulsárlón – Reyðarfjörður
In the morning you will drive 300 km along the sea shore. On the way you can experience the Icelandic fjords with their amazing views for the first time. We will share with you all the tips for hot pots on your way, where you can stop, relax your bones and chat a little with locals who visit these thermal waters mainly after nightfall. Your accommodation is in the surroundings of Reyðarfjörður, the biggest town of the east fjords.
Day 6 – Reyðarfjörður – Reykjahlíð
Today you’re heading to the inland. On the way to Mývatn you can easily find out how stark the Icelandic landscape can be, especially in bad weather. The long miles of the black stone desert, where you will not meet a living soul even the omnipresent sheep. Randomly you will meet another traveler and near every resting place there will be numbers of stone pyramids, which are built there by travelers as you. Whole journey will be crowned by visit to the impresive Dettifoss Waterfall, which means the Waterfall of Death. A huge mass of water full of volcanic sand is rushing down between the rocks in the inhospitable stone landscape. As a reward after this depressing journey you can visit the thermal lagoon with unbelievable turquoise water and with the medicinal properties (entrance fee for surcharge). Overnight in the hotel in the area.
Day 7 – Reykjahlíð – Húsavík – Akureyri
In the morning you can visit the thermal area of Mývatn – a geothermal power station working beneaths Krafla volcano, or you can walk through the fumaroles in the area of Hverir. All the time you can strongly smell the sulphur, all around you, even in the water, which is surprisingly still drinkable.
In the afternoon you will drive to the northernmost city of Iceland – Húsavík. Take a stop at Góðafoss, „the waterfall of Gods“, and learn something about its legend. From Húsavík you can take a whale watching boat trip, northern lights tours or a tour above Arctic circle. All of them we can arrange for you for a surcharge. You can end your day here in Húsavík or continue to Akureyri, the biggest city in Iceland along the fjords. It’s a fishermen’s city with a cathedral as its dominant feature. Whale watching tours also embark from here. Overnight in the hotel in the city.
Day 8 – Akureyri – Blönduós
From Akureyri you can choose the journey you like – you will follow the Ring Road and take a shorter way through the inland, or you can drive along the seashore, mostly on gravel roads. We will give you tips for the natural thermal hot pots on your way, where you can stop and relax. Today your final destination is Blönduós, where you stay overnight in your hotel.
Day 9 – Blönduós – Staður
Today you drive to the town called Staður. On the way you can stop wherever you want to and whenever you like. In our manual you will find one amazing stop, a cascading waterfall down into a canyon. You can take a walk in the canyon and explore many smaller waterfalls, connected by the meandering river. There is a big chance that you won’t meet anybody and that’s the reason why this place is so wonderful! Overnight in the region of Staður.
Day 10 – Staður – Þingvellir – Reykjavík
In the morning after a restorative sleep, you will drive to the Þingvellir national park. On the way you will make your own stops. In the end you can explore the place, where (meet?) two continental plates meet – Eurosian and North American. You can also find the settlement of the first parliament of Iceland and if your temperament is really adventurous, you can dive in the icy water between these two plates. Enjoy a full day in the national park, where you can find many stunning places and corners. Overnight in the area of NP or on the way to inland.
Day 11 – Pingvellir – Reykjavík
As you began with the Golden triangle, you will finish your tour with the rest of it. From Þingvellir national park you will drive to the inland, where you can find the father of all geysers, simply The Geysir. It’s in the middle of a geothermal field and the whole area works as a textbook of thermal activities. The last of the famous Icelandic waterfalls is Gullfoss. You definitely won’t be alone here, it’s surrounded by tourists, but still worth seeing.
In the evening you will choose your own way to Reykjavík, where you will spend your last day on Iceland. Once checked in to your hotel, you can enjoy Reykjavík in the night. We’ll give you some tips on what to try and where to taste typical Icelandic specialities.
