You will find history in the Czech Republic literally on every corner. The oldest cities were founded during the Middle Ages at the crossroads of trading routes. Coins were minted in them, heavy metals were mined and beer was brewed. You may easily be able to recognize the most well known and oldest – all of them are located three hours by car from the Capital City of Prague: Cesky Krumlov, Ceske Budejovice, Kutna Hora are just a few of them. Your “base camp” during this holiday package will be in hundred-spired Prague, Prague – the mother of cities, magical Prague. These are just three titles which the capital of the Czech Republic proudly wears. It has an extraordinary charm about it which can be sensed in every season. Its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site speaks for its worth.
Day 1 – Arrival To Prague
Welcome to the „Mother of Cities“ or „Golden City“, as Prague is called. An English-speaking guide will take you to your hotel. Rest of the day is free. Night in a 3-star hotel close to the city-centre.
Day 2 – Prague city tour
It´s your first day in Prague. Discover the city on an open top bus! The city center is a mélange of stunning architecture, from Gothic, Renaissance and baroque to neoclassical, art nouveau and cubist. See the Dancing House, St Ciril and Method Church, Charles Square, National Museum and Jewish Quarter. Hop on and off whenever wanted, také as many pictures as you like, stroll around, have a coffee break. You get a 48 hrs. ticket. Night in the hotel.
Day 3 – Karlstejn Castle tour
Today in the morning you will have the opportunity to visit Karlstejn Castle, one of the most impressive Gothic castles in the Czech Republic. It was founded in the 14th century by the Emperor Charles IV to become a treasury of the crown jewels and holy relics. It is situated on a picturesque site in the middle of dense forests not far from the Capital and you will be picked up at the hotel for this tour. Afternoon is at your leisure, you can go on discovering the city by the hop on/off bus tour. Night in the hotel.
Day 4 – Glass factory in Nizbor and Pilsner brewery
Today´s trip combines two tours – visits to two sites guaranteeing the top quality of two most famous typical Czech products: glass and beer. If you want to learn something about Czech people you cannot miss this tour. In Pilsen beer has been brewed since the town was founded in 1295. But the real Pilsner known in the world these days is connected with the name of Pilsner Urquell which is brewed in the Prazdroj brewery built in 1842. Since that time brewers all over the world have been trying in vain to imitate this beer! Your visit to the factory will help you to understand how Pilsner (this bread which flows) was brewed and drank in the past and how real Pilsner is brewed and drank today. You move in the afternoon to the most famous glass factory in a small town Nizbor on the Berounka river not far from Prague. On your way around the factory you will learn a lot about the whole history and the contemporary period of glass production in Bohemia. There is an excellent opportunity to buy glass products at the glass factory Nizbor. Return to Prague. Night in the hotel.
Day 5 – Kutna Hora tour
Another unforgettable day is waiting for you. After you will be picked up at the hotel and driven in one hour east of Prague, you will arrive at the immensely architecturally rich town of Kutna Hora, which was built in the Middle Ages in the midst of an extensive silver ore field. It became over the course of time, the second most significant town after Prague because of the production of money which symbolizes the force and wealth of Czech kings and the kingdom. While walking through the historical centre of the town you quickly realize why it was recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. The interior of the Cathedral of St. Barbara undoubtedly ranks among the best examples of late Gothic architecture in Bohemia. You will also visit the church, the Old Mint, as well as the old mint where Prague Gros and later Austrian Tolar were made. After the tour you will return back to Prague. Night in the hotel.
Day 6 – Day off
The program is demanding. Therefore it´s time to relax a little bit today. You can either go shopping, taste Czech beer or stroll around the city once again to buy some souvenirs and take more romantic pictures. Night in the hotel.
Day 7 – Karlovy Vary, spa
Today you will visit the most well known Czech Spa. The founding of this town has been linked to Emperor Charles IV since 1358, when he built a hunting lodge here. There are 12 famous springs with a temperature of about 72°C. Karlovy Vary is also famous for its local china and glass manufacturing industry. These products are on display at a special exhibition and are sold at specialized shops. The spa was visited by many rulers and artists including Goethe, Chateaubriand, Chopin, Beethoven, Brahms and Dvorak. There is time for lunch (included in the tour). You will also visit the Becherovka Museum, the Moser glass shop and Thun porcelain shop.
Day 8 – Cesky Krumlov and Ceske Budejovice tour
The picturesque town of Cesky Krumlov is situated above the meandering valley along the upper Vltava River in Southern Bohemia. It has won an international reputation thanks to its historical riches. More than three hundred historic buildings dominated by a huge castle and the church of St. Vitus bear witness to their rich past. Cesky Krumlov has enormous appeal as an urban unity and has been included among the monuments on the UNESCO World Cultural an Natural Heritage list. You will visit the castle and the old centre of the town. Traveling through Southern Bohemia you may admire its beautiful landscape with many forests and ponds. They you continue to the south Bohemian city of Ceske Budejovice with its unique historic square, lined with Renaissance and Baroque houses and dominated by the Black Tower. Hotel pick-up and drop-off, lunch and admission are included in this full-day tour. Night in the hotel.
Day 9 – Prague departure
If you do not wish to extend your stay, it is time to say goodbye. We will take you to the airport to catch a flight home.
